Would this relationship work?

My next door neighbor's mom came over my house yesterday and talked to my parents and hung out and she started talking about relationships and indirectly suggested that she wants me to ask her son out. I've never really talked to him before. He's a junior at a college in Philly and I'm a freshman at a college in connecticuit. His mom thinks we'd be the perfect couple and I'd go for it but we could really only be together in the summer. I dont really think a long distance relationship could work but I've never been in one so I'm not sure.
