How do I decide where to go?

I am about to graduate with a degree in education. my field of concentration is high school social studies. I live in northwest Ohio and will most likely not stay in Ohio for various reasons. I will also be a 2LT (O-1) in the National guard once I graduate. the issue is that I need to find a unit to go to as well as find a teaching job in the same area. I WANT to go to NYC, but it seems like it's too expensive from the little research that I have done. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about figuring out where I wanna go or where a good place to go? I'd prefer to live in the city. I grew up in the country.... not a fan. Other places I have thought about are Chicago, Houston, Philly, St. Louis and the west coast.
